23-year-old charged with murder of elderly man at Marine Parade condo


SINGAPORE – A 23-year-old man was charged in a district court on Nov 15 with the murder of an elderly man at Laguna Park condominium in Marine Parade.

Yeo Tze How is accused of murdering Mr Tham Lup Hong, 68, at the 13th floor lift lobby of 5000C Marine Parade Road between 12.20pm and 12.45pm on Nov 13.

Court documents did not state how the two men were related. Investigations showed they were allegedly involved in a dispute.

The victim was taken unconscious to Changi General Hospital, where

he later

died

.

The police had initially said Yeo was arrested for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons.

Officers seized two penknives from the scene.

Appearing in court via video link on Nov 15, Yeo asked the judge to sentence him to death, reported Lianhe Zaobao.

He was told by the prosecution that investigations were ongoing, and he could not be sentenced yet.

The prosecution also requested for Yeo to be remanded for three weeks to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

This is the seventh murder in 2025, and Yeo is the third man to be charged with the crime in the last seven days.

On Nov 9, Tan Boon Hui, 58, and Poh Choon Kiat, 59, were

each

handed a capital charge

after they allegedly stabbed Mr Jaganthan Arunasalam on Nov 8 during a fight on the 17th floor of Block 51 Chin Swee Road.

On Nov 12, Poh was

taken back to

the

crime scene

for investigations. Tan was not brought to the flat as he is hospitalised.

Knife crime has been

rising

, with 75 incidents reported in the first half of 2025, up from 59 in the same period in 2024.

There were 131 incidents for the 

whole of 2024.

Yeo’s case will be heard again on Dec 5.

If convicted of murder, he faces the death penalty.
