Remember when TikToker @ummmyuhasdf’s ‘I Miss You’ audio went so viral, it sparked a trend that inspired even K-pop superstars IU and Shinee’s Minho? The trend saw people covering their eyebrows with their index fingers and pointing their middle fingers towards their mouth before lowering them to form a ‘finger heart’.
@ummmyuhasdf went on to make the news, with several media outlets calling him a Singaporean due to his accent. However, he has since revealed his Malaysian passport in a TikTok, and also called out local media for mistaking him for a Singaporean in their headlines.
In a TikTok, @ummmyuhasdf said: “I hate to do this but I had to Google my own name to see which media has reported on it and I saw a few Singaporean, Malaysian, and Brunei entertainment news websites talking about it — and they all think I’m Singaporean.”
@ummmyuhasdf’s gripe was that the journalists didn’t reach out to him for the information and so he wanted to clear the air once and for all.
CNA, however, got a shout-out for getting his nationality correct.
He then closed out the video by urging Malaysians and Singaporeans to stop fighting in his comments section about “culture theft”.
“Stop it. I’m a Malaysian staying in Singapore and this feels like my parents arguing and I don’t like it,” he said.
Several local media outlets have since edited their headlines to accurately reflect @ummmyuhasdf’s nationality.
