Tampines restaurant Abu Mubarak fined S$4,700 for food safety lapses following cases of gastroenteritis


SINGAPORE: Restaurant operator Abu Mubarak was on Thursday (Jul 10) fined S$4,700 (US$3,483) for food safety lapses, following reports of gastroenteritis last year among people who consumed food from its Tampines outlet.

In April 2023, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) received reports of 12 cases of gastroenteritis involving people who had consumed food provided by the restaurant, which is located at 300 Tampines Avenue 5, SFA said in a news release.

Two were hospitalised and subsequently discharged.

A joint investigation conducted by SFA and MOH at the restaurant revealed multiple food safety lapses.

These included a cockroach infestation in the food preparation area and the possession of unclean food for sale.

Abu Mubarak also has an outlet on North Bridge Road.
