Govt allocates RM1.5mil for Deepavali food baskets and RM20mil for crematoriums



PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that RM1.5mil has been allocated for food baskets in celebration of Deepavali, which falls on October 31 this year.

Additionally, RM20 million has been allocated for the construction of crematoriums in several states, including Kedah, Johor, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang.

In a Tuesday (Sept 24) post on X, Anwar expressed his hope for the continued improvement of the Indian community’s socioeconomic status in the country. He also stated that the government’s commitment to the Indian community would be reflected in Budget 2025, which would be presented on Oct 18.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, emphasized that the government has never neglected the welfare of the Indian community and has been continuously working to improve key aspects such as education, places of worship, and employment opportunities. He also mentioned past allocations to the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) and increased funding for programs such as the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia.
