Man arrested for allegedly attacking and injuring police officer in Whampoa

SINGAPORE – A 41-year-old man was arrested on the morning of Feb 16, for allegedly assaulting and injuring a police officer, among other offences.

On Feb 15, the police first received a call for assistance at 7.35pm at Block 81 Whampoa Drive, where eyewitnesses saw a man attempting to hit a woman with a baton.

The man then fled the scene before they arrived, said the police on Feb 16.

Officers from the Tanglin Police Division launched follow-up investigations, and tracked down the man’s identity and location. When he was later confronted by the police in the early hours of Feb 16, the man refused to cooperate and turned aggressive, allegedly attacking an officer with a baseball bat and mug. He was eventually arrested at 3.15am.

The 49-year-old police officer suffered injuries to his head and wrist as a result, and was discharged with two days of medical leave.

The man is expected to be charged on Feb 17, for offences including criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant.
