SINGAPORE – The public are encouraged to donate their pre-loved textbooks at FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets over the next two weeks as part of an initiative to support underprivileged students.
Pre-loved Ministry of Education-approved textbooks can be dropped off at any of nine FairPrice Xtra stores across the island from Nov 13 to 26 as part of Share-A-Textbook.
Now in its 43rd edition, the donation drive by FairPrice Group (FPG) is aimed at providing disadvantaged children with educational essentials for the new school year.
Donations can also be made at Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre in Yishun, where FPG’s community volunteers and corporate partners will help sort the textbooks, which will then be distributed on Dec 5 and 6.
The initiative was first launched in 1982 to support the educational needs of vulnerable students and families.
So far, over seven million textbooks have been donated to nearly 300,000 students through the drive.
“Since its launch, the flagship initiative has grown to become Singapore’s largest textbook donation drive, supporting student beneficiaries of schools, community organisations and the public with accessing basic educational resources,” FPG said.
The drive is the latest in a series of initiatives launched by FPG and FairPrice Foundation to ensure daily essentials are accessible to all in Singapore.
These include a food donation drive to provide communities in need with nutritious groceries and hot meals, and a breakfast club that provided over 12,000 Primary 6 students sitting their exams with nutritious breakfast bundles.
Those who wish to donate can do so at FairPrice Xtra outlets at Ang Mo Kio Hub, Hougang One, VivoCity, Changi Business Park, Nex, Parkway Parade, Sports Hub, JEM and Jurong Point.
