PULAU PANGKOR: Team Hollywood Samurai from Hong Kong clinched the first stage of the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (RMSIR) 2025 race from Port Klang to Pangkor, Perak here today.
Team Hollywood Samurai skippered by Raymond Roberts together with his 10 crew who were competing in the Class 1 racing category, clocked 12 hours 59 minutes 25 seconds.
“Actually it’s a very difficult race to win.
“Sailing from the south to the north in Malaysia you have got a lot of thunderstorm activity particularly at night.
“So you have to be very sharp to make sure that you’re getting the best advantage of the wind because the wind is changing all the time throughout the race,” he told Bernama after the prize giving ceremony today.
Meanwhile, the Aftershock from Australia finished second after clocking 13:03.00s while Windsikher from Singapore finished third with a time of 13:54.11s.
In the Class 2 competition Team Shahtoosh from Hong Kong won the race while Malaysian team Jolt took the Class 3 title and Kimikimi from Poland triumphed in Class 4.
Another Malaysian team Dash was victorious in the Class 5 race.
The RMSIR held over eight days from Nov 14 to Nov 22, features 23 teams which will continue the next race to Penang while the final destination is Langkawi.
The RMSIR which started in 1990 is the second oldest regatta in Asia and the braindchild of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who was the Raja Muda of Selangor when the race was incepted.
