JOHOR BARU: A petrol station operator is tracking down a couple in a Singapore-registered Lexus SUV who drove off without paying after filling up with RON97 petrol.
The operator urged the duo to return and settle the RM139.01 bill, adding that the staff member on duty would otherwise be forced to cover the loss.
The incident occurred earlier this week at a Caltex station located at the Skudai Highway rest area.
A female employee told China Press that the male driver requested a full tank of RON97 upon arrival, resulting in payment not being collected upfront.
During the refuelling, a woman from the vehicle entered the convenience store to shop.
The staff member said that after finishing her purchase, the woman returned to the SUV and the male driver immediately drove away.
“As the staff outside were busy at the time, it took a while before we realised they had left without paying. We tried to chase after the vehicle but failed,” she said.
She added that other motorists who witnessed the incident honked to alert the couple, but the SUV did not stop.
