Soloz backs Mobile Legends revamp to fix league financial woes

KUALA LUMPUR: The introduction of a partnership-based model for the Malaysia Professional League (MPL MY) next season will prioritise player welfare and financial stability within the local Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) scene.

The game’s developer, MOONTON Games, announced on Sunday that MPL MY will transition into a partnership league featuring eight teams.

Former professional player Faris Zakaria said the revamped structure would provide much-needed security for players, addressing long-standing concerns over financial instability.

He said many teams previously struggled to stay afloat due to the high costs of running an eSports organisation.

“The biggest change for me is player welfare because this new model ensures players are more secure compared to before,” said Faris, also known as Soloz.

“Before this, some teams had financial difficulties because eSports requires a lot of money, so this new system will help protect players.”

Faris added that under the partnership model, league organisers would prioritise teams that are financially stable.

“With this approach, only teams that are truly stable financially will be chosen, so issues related to unpaid salaries or unstable operations should no longer happen,” he said.

“If teams from outside Malaysia come in, they will definitely bring better facilities and more professional setups compared to before.”

He said this increased professionalism would raise the overall standard of the league and help produce more high-quality Malaysian players.

“This kind of healthy competition will make the league stronger and, from there, more professional players can be developed,” he said.
