Ex-TVB Actor Liu Wai Hung, 68, Opens Fishball Shop In KL

Former TVB actor Liu Wai Hung, best remembered for his role as Chinese immigrant Ah Chan in 1979 classic The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (网中人), has been making waves in recent years in the F&B scene.

Now 68, Wai Hung has opened a new fishball shop in Kuala Lumpur, marking his latest business venture in Malaysia. His wife is Malaysian and the couple has a 37-year-old son.

Wai Hung left the entertainment industry in the 90s to focus on business, dabbling in a range of ventures, from a karaoke joint and char siew business to farming.

In 2025, he made headlines after opening a four-storey restaurant, Xing Cantonese Cuisine, in KL.

More recently, he announced his latest project on YouTube, where he has been actively promoting his new fishball business, Lin Long Fish Ball Shop.

In the video, he demonstrates how his fishballs, which contain 100% pure fish meat, are made.

Sporting a full white beard and appearing energetic, Wai Hung shared that the eatery is currently undergoing final preparations and will have its grand opening on February 13.

Wai Hung’s journey as an entrepreneur has not always been smooth sailing.

After switching careers in the 1990s, he suffered business setbacks that led to bankruptcy, leaving him with debts of more than HK$400,000 (S$66K). His life hit rock bottom, and it wasn’t until 2006 that he fully repaid all his debts.

He later shifted his focus to organic farming in China, where his business reportedly flourished.

According to reports, Wai Hung successfully turned his life around and is now believed to be worth over HK$100mil (S$16.3mil).

In recent years, Wai Hung has also been open about his health struggles, revealing that he suffered from stroke and gout.

He once became close to paralysis after experiencing stiffness and numbness in his lower left jaw, followed by temporary loss of sensation in his left leg.

After undergoing traditional Chinese acupuncture treatment, he managed to recover about 60 to 80 per cent of his physical condition.

He has since shared wellness tips online, alongside updates on his business ventures.
