Singapore, Japan ink pact to strengthen energy market regulations

SINGAPORE, July 13 — Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Japan’s Electricity and Gas Market Surveillance Commission (EGC) have inked a partnership to strengthen collaboration on energy market regulation.

In a statement, EMA said the memorandum of cooperation (MoC) signed on Monday aimed to promote cooperation and information exchange on gas and electricity markets.

It will also facilitate greater knowledge exchange on energy market surveillance approaches, regulation design, and system stability measures.

EMA chief executive Puah Kok Keong said the exchanges with EGC are part of efforts to ensure a well-functioning energy market and reliable power supply.

“Given the rapidly evolving energy landscape, it is important that our regulatory practices are kept up-to-date,” he said.

Meanwhile, EGC Secretary General Tatsuya Shinkawa said the collaboration would enable Singapore and Japan to address challenges in ensuring a reliable energy supply and well-functioning electricity markets. — Bernama
