Remember when Singapore flags seemed to fill almost every HDB block in the lead-up to National Day? A recent social media post showing an HDB estate with almost no Singapore flags on display got people wondering if hanging the national flag has become a fading tradition. Curious, we decided to check a few HDB blocks ourselves. In some of the estate we visited, we could count the number of Singapore flags hung per block on one hand. Of course, displaying the Singapore flag has always been voluntary, and our observations aren’t representative of every neighbourhood in Singapore. But it does raise an interesting question: are fewer Singaporeans choosing to put up the flag today, or does it simply feel that way? With National Day approaching and Singapore celebrating SG60, we explore why the simple act of hanging the national flag still sparks conversation. What does your HDB block look like this year? Are your neighbours flying the Singapore flag, or has this National Day tradition quietly changed over time? #8dayssg #8dayssgtrending #NationalDay2026 #NDP #SingaporeFlag
