SINGAPORE, Aug 10 — Singapore MP Tan Kiat How had an especially memorable National Day after his wife’s water broke during the parade — before their third child arrived the following morning.
The East Coast GRC MP announced on Facebook today that baby Micah had been born that morning, describing the new arrival as the family’s “best National Day gift”.
“Yesterday’s National Day Parade was exciting in more ways than I had expected,” Tan wrote.
“Towards the end of the show, my wife’s water started leaking.”
The couple still had enough time for their two older children, Isaac and Ayla, to stay until the end of the celebrations, including the fireworks and pledge.
“Thankfully, baby was patient enough for Isaac and Ayla to enjoy the parade till the very end — fireworks, pledge and all!” Tan said.
Tan said he took his wife to hospital after the parade, after first dropping Isaac and Ayla off at home.
Micah was born the following morning.
“Feeling incredibly grateful and blessed as we welcome the newest member of our family,” Tan wrote, while thanking the medical team who cared for his wife and newborn son.
“Our best National Day gift.”
Tan, who is senior minister of state for digital development and information and health, is now a father of three.
He previously announced the birth of daughter Ayla in October 2023, while his eldest child, Isaac, celebrated his sixth birthday on August 5.
