KUCHING, Sept 11 — The courage, struggles and sacrifices of the early nationalists who fought for the formation of Malaysia will be brought to life in the musical theatre production ‘Malaysia Madani Kesejahteraan Dinikmati’, to be staged in conjunction with Malaysia Day on September 16.
Production director Zakaria Hassan said the 18-minute performance would also highlight the spirit of patriotism, unity and solidarity as vital foundations for the nation’s formation and development.
“Every year, we celebrate Malaysia Day, but sometimes the performances can feel a bit repetitive.
“But one thing we always want to highlight is the sacrifices of those who gave their time, energy and even their lives for the nation,” he told Bernama after a rehearsal for the musical at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly building recently.

He said the musical would also touch on national development, highlighting unity as an important foundation for the country’s continued progress and success.
Zakaria said the musical would showcase its message through acting, singing, music and dance, giving audiences a different experience from the usual Malaysia Day performances featuring pantomime or dance.
“Through dance, songs, vocals, acting and music, as well as the use of various ethnic languages, we want to showcase Malaysia’s diversity and spirit of unity,” he said.
Zakaria said the performance involved about 70 people, including actors, production crew and musicians, who had spent more than three weeks preparing for the show.

The cast features singer, actor and TV host Ahmad Azam Pit, better known as Azam Pitt, alongside radio presenter, actor and host Sharifah Elya Nabila.
Zakaria said having an entirely Sarawakian production team also provided a platform to showcase and develop local talent in the performing arts.
About 5,000 people are expected to attend the 2026 Malaysia Day celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on September 16.
The guest of honour at the event will be Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who will be accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
