Breaking | Malaysia’s Loke resigns as transport minister following Najib’s house arrest approval

Malaysia’s Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary general Anthony Loke has stepped down as transport minister a day after the Pardons Board decided to allow incarcerated former prime minister Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his jail term at home.

“I have decided to resign as the minister of transport to the prime minister, and this only involves me as minister,” Loke said.

Loke said that while the DAP respected the king’s decision to grant Najib a conditional pardon, it had taken a stand. The party and many others did not accept the decision to allow Najib to serve his house arrest until the end of his jail term in August 2028.

DAP is the largest component of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition and currently holds 12 government positions under the unity government.
