KUALA LUMPUR: Men’s doubles Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing led Malaysia’s surge at the Guwahati Masters in India while Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee were the only Malaysian survivors in the women’s doubles on Wednesday.
World No. 49 Aaron-Khai Xing, who won the Syed Modi International last week, defeated unranked Thai pair Apichasit Teerawiwat-Thanadol Yunmongkol 21-10, 21-15 in the first round.
World No. 111 Goh Boon Sze-Wong Vin Sean overcame Thailand’s Pongsakorn Thongkam-Wongsathorn Thongkam 21-15, 21-13 in their opening round and will next play Taiwan’s world No. 41 He Zhi Wei–Huang Jui Hsuan.
Independent world No. 103 Boon Xin Yuan-Lee Yi Bo defeated India’s world No. 176 Aditya Diwakar-Kavin Thangam 21-15, 21-12 to book a second-round date against Thailand’s world No. 65 Pharanyu Kaosamaang-Tanadon Punpanich.
Another independent duo — world No. 79 Lau Yi Sheng-Lim Tze Jian — secured a 21-13, 21-13 win over India’s world No. 195 H.V. Nithin-Venkata Harsha Vardan.
However, world No. 86 Bryan Goonting–Fazriq Razif lost 17-21, 21-19, 21-18 to India’s top seeds and world No. 52 K. Pruthvi-Sai Prateek.
Meanwhile, women’s doubles world No. 29 Carmen-Xin Yee reached the second round with a 21-4, 21-17 win over India’s world No. 314 Aparna Balan-B. Divya. They will next meet Taiwan’s world No. 121 Chen Hsuan Ni-Hsieh Mi Yen.
However, world No. 94 Ho Lo Ee-Amanda Yap lost 21-17, 19-21, 21-12 to Hsuan Ni-Mi Yen, while Cheng Su Hui-Tan Zhing Yi were beaten 23-21, 24-22 by Indonesian world No. 100 Siti Sarah Azzahra-Zahra Ditya Ramadhani.
