Ashley secures top-10 finish in Epson Tour season opener

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Ashley Lau got her Epson Tour golf campaign off to a solid start with a top-10 finish at the Central Florida Championship on Sunday.

The Sarawakian delivered an impressive performance at the Country Club of Winter Haven, finishing in a five-way tie for ninth place after closing with a final-round 69 for a 54-hole total of eight-under 208. Her strong start earned her US$5,282 (RM23,600).

At the top of the leaderboard, American Riley Smith emerged as the champion after edging Mathilda Castren of Finland in a dramatic three-hole playoff. Both players had finished regulation play tied at 15-under 201.

Meanwhile, fellow Malaysian Kelly Tan, who is looking to regain her LPGA Tour card after losing it last year, endured a tough start. She posted rounds of 75 and 78, missing the halfway cut.
