GEORGE TOWN: Four people have been pulled out from under the debris of a construction site near the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) in Batu Maung near here which collapsed last night.
Of the four, one has been confirmed dead and another three sustained serious injuries.
They have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
This was confirmed by operations officer Azrul Khairi Abu Bakar when met at the scene.
“We are still searching for another five people feared trapped in the debris,” he said.
It was reported that a building under construction collapsed last night.
Initial reports said at least nine people were feared trapped.
Rescuers at the site said of the five victims feared trapped, only one was visible.
“It may take some time to get to the others,” a rescue worker added.
