Bursa Malaysia halts short selling in SMRT as shares plunge


KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia has temporarily suspended short selling in SMRT Holdings Bhd’s stocks until 8.30am on Tuesday after its share price tumbled sharply, hitting the daily price limit.

At 9.55am, the counter lost 55.06 per cent or 24.5 sen, from 20 sen, a level last seen since February 2023.

The stock opened lower at 33 sen, down 25.8 per cent from its closing price of 44.5 sen on Friday. It hit an intraday low of 19.5 sen in the morning trading session.

Over the past year, SMRT Holdings’ share price has fallen 82.9 per cent, reflecting a challenging period for the company and investors alike.

SMRT reported a net profit of RM7.06 million on revenue of RM16.55 million for the first quarter ended Sept 30, 2025, indicating modest earnings despite the sharp market sell-off.
