Some people see any four-digit number as a sign to buy 4D. And viewers of new Mediacorp drama Old And Dangerous may have had the right idea.
Mediacorp actor Chen Shucheng recently shared on Instagram that part of his character Ah Hu’s phone number — 9898 — in the 9pm Chinese drama won second prize in the Singapore Pools 4D draw on Aug 16.
“Ah Hu’s phone number won second prize. Congratulations to the viewer who won, huat ah!” the actor chirped.
In the series, Shucheng plays a former Special Operations Force (SOF) officer with a gambling addiction who later falls victim to a love scam. His character’s mobile number is revealed in one scene.
Unfortunately for Shucheng, he didn’t take the hint himself.
“[Ah Hu] didn’t inform me to place a bet,” he quipped in the comments.
One netizen noted that 9898 is a popular combination and claimed many punters were unable to place bets on it this week.
“You can’t place a bet? That means there were many winners this time,” Shucheng joked.
And apparently, 9898 has been on a lucky streak.
According to commenters, the number also won a Consolation Prize in the previous week’s draw.
Shucheng, however, isn’t counting on his character to make him rich anytime soon.
“I don’t have a knack for unexpected wealth,” he said.
Probably for the best, Shucheng dage. Ah Hu’s gambling addiction isn’t exactly the part of his character we’d recommend taking inspiration from.
