Those who have been following reality competition Sisters Who Make Waves for the past four seasons will know how challenging it is for actresses to be on it.
How are they supposed to match up to professional singers and dancers on stage in such a short frame of time?
Taiwanese actress Cheryl Yang, who’s a competing on the fifth season of Sisters Who Make Waves, which has been renamed as Ride The Wind 2024, must agree.
In a recent episode, the 46-year-old formed a team with Chinese singer He Jie, Show Luo’s ex-girlfriend Grace Chow as well as Thai actress Davika Hoorne (aka Mai).
For their performance, the group sang and danced to Stefanie Sun’s 2003 Bollywood-inspired song ‘Magical’.
Seeing that singing and dancing was not the group’s forte, they eventually came in last at 8th place.
And among them, Cheryl’s dancing received the most brickbats from netizens, with one netizen comparing her dance moves to the Monkey God.
“Cheryl, what kind of Sun Wukong dance are you doing? Isn’t it better if you just stick to acting?” said the netizen.
The actress, however, chose to address the comment graciously.
“I really do look like [Sun Wukong]. Thank you for noticing me, but I’ve already tried my best. I like to dance and I’m there to learn and get out of my comfort zone,” she replied.
Cheryl also said she’s “looking forward” to any kind of guidance from others for her future performances.
Many eventually came to her defense.
“We’ll support you no matter what,” assured a fan while another said: “Cheryl is willing to try new things, I think that’s great. What’s most important is that she likes to dance and enjoys doing it.”
