A Chinese woman living in Singapore recently took to Xiaohongshu to share her positive experience with MRT staff, praising their efficiency in retrieving her lost bag.
Recalling the incident, she said: “I just arrived in Singapore and had bought too many things, so I got my child to hold onto my bag. It was only after we exited the MRT station that we realised my bag was still on the train seat.”
Her child was extremely apologetic about the mistake, but the woman remained calm and reassured them.
She approached the station’s staff for assistance, hoping they could help track down her bag.
Fortunately for the woman, who alighted at Hillview station along the Downtown Line, her bag was retrieved by staff seven stops later at Stevens station.
After taking the train there, she was reunited with her bag following a simple verification process.
The staff even went through her belongings with her to ensure everything was still in the bag, and she simply had to sign a form to acknowledge receipt before heading on her way.
She also expressed her admiration for Singapore’s efficiency and integrity.
“Singapore is truly a country with lots of integrity, so there’s no fear that someone else will falsely claim a lost item. After signing the form, [the staff] passed me my bag. The wholeprocess was seamless, easy, and efficient. I hardly had to wait,” she said.
The woman recounted an exchange she had with her neighbour in China. Her neighbour’s kid, who is currently studying in Singapore, once left a packet of tissues in the school library.
A few days later, the library staff sought the kid out to return him his tissues.
That, on top of her own experience, reassures her that Singapore is “truly a place where you can have peace of mind”, she added.
She admitted that she was “super nervous” when she realised her bag was missing, as it contained her house keys and important documents.
“Luckily this happened in Singapore. If we were in another country, I would have to bid my bag farewell. Efficiency aside, what amazed me even more was that no one had taken the bag,” she wrote.
Netizens commended the woman for staying calm and not blaming her child, and also agreed with her praise of Singapore’s “good public security” and “low crime rate”.
One person pointed out that Singapore’s small size makes it “easier to keep things in line.”
The general consensus? Singapore is a place where people have “enough to eat and enough to wear”, so people are “not greedy” and are more inclined to help others.
Do you agree?
