CONTRACT AWARDED
The S$590 million (US$440 million) contract to design and construct the Jurong Lake District station – a working name – and tunnels was awarded to KTC Civil Engineering and Construction, announced LTA on Wednesday.
“KTC Civil Engineering and Construction is an established local company with extensive experience in infrastructure projects in Singapore,” said LTA.
It previously constructed Tampines interchange station on the Downtown Line and Orchard Boulevard station on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).
The company is currently involved in the construction of Maju station on the CRL and Sungei Bedok station on the TEL.
The CRL is Singapore’s eighth MRT line, linking areas such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and the Changi region, LTA said. Almost half of the stations will be interchanges with other rail lines.
The fully underground line will be constructed in three phases. Phase 1 was announced in 2019 and comprises 12 stations, with construction work expected to be completed by 2030.
Phase 2, announced in September 2022, comprises six stations. Besides Jurong Lake District, the other stations are King Albert Park, Maju, Clementi, West Coast and Turf City.
Engineering studies for Phase 3 are ongoing and more details will be announced when the studies are completed, said LTA.
