Hong Kong says Singapore minister David Neo apologised for ‘idiots’ remark


Neo later said in a social media post that he should have been more respectful.

“I take back what I said. The Hong Kong team were really tough and their fans were fully behind them. That’s something we should respect, and let’s also get behind our Lions,” he said.

Law said the incident would not affect the long-standing sports and cultural relationship between Hong Kong and Singapore.

It also reported that following the result, Ashley Westwood’s 15-month stint as Hong Kong head coach is set to come to an end.

Singapore, meanwhile, is on the hunt for a new head coach, as football fans hail interim coach Gavin Lee for leading the Lions to the historic win.
