As Malaysian football deals with clubs threatening to pull out of the premier competition seemingly on a weekly basis, and the S-League still hasn’t announced a starting date for 2017, it’s worth looking north for an example of how football should be run at all levels…

On the same weekend English Premier League clubs Sunderland, Watford and Hull all played in the FA Cup, a high school match in Japan drew – comfortably – a larger crowd than those three matches combined.
