KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah FC owner, Tan Sri Dr Daud Abu Bakar, has dismissed talks that his Super League club will cease to exist next season.
He said on Friday that such claims are baseless, damaging the team’s morale and bad for Kedah’s sponsors.
Daud urged the media to be more objective in their reporting.
“I feel a bit sad and upset, but we can’t change what has already been said. What we must do is change the narrative, and find ways to improve the club.
However, Daud admitted that his club is facing major financial problems, with players not paid their salaries up to 10 months.
“I think from what we know, we still owe a lot — up to 10 months.
“To give a bit of peace of mind to the players, we are trying to provide an advance, not full payment, but at least a minimum amount to help them,” he said.
He assured that Kedah FC remain committed to resolving their financial crisis and completing the 2024-2025 Super League season.
“We have talked to the players and officials, and we ask them to be patient. There are five or six games left, and we will finish them to the best of our ability.”
With financial stability being a key requirement for M-League participation, Daud said Kedah FC are working towards fulfilling the Malaysian Football League’s conditions.
Meanwhile, Kedah FC acting CEO Shahrul Samsudin refuted reports suggesting that the former Malaysia Cup champions might drop to the second tier of the M-League.
“I would like to ask, has the MFL announced there will be a Premier League (second tier)? They haven’t even confirmed it.
“So I urge the media to stop their speculation,” said Shahrul.
Daud and Shahrul were present during Kedah’s partnership announcement with telecommunications company BeOne Prepaid, along with the unveiling of three ambassadors — singer Black Hanifah and influencers CEO Batu and CEO Bieziy — at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
