Malaysian officials headed to US for tariff discussions

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian officials will travel to the United States for discussions on the 24 per cent tariff on Malaysian imports, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.

“There may be limited room to revisit the underlying intent, but there is still scope for adjusting the policy’s implementation,” he said in his keynote address at the launch of the Asean Simplified ESG Disclosure Guide for SMEs in Supply Chains.

Anwar said Malaysia was sending officials to Washington as the government did not believe in megaphone diplomacy.

He added this was why Malaysia opted to dispatch officers there as part of its “soft diplomacy of quiet engagement”.

The launch of the guide is in conjunction with the Asean Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting (AFMGM) and Related Meetings.
