A man from Malaysia has gone viral after a recent TikTok clip saw him tying the knot with, not just one, but two brides in a single wedding ceremony.
The clip of the wedding, reportedly held in Sabah, saw the newlyweds marching into the venue and taking their seats on the dais together.
Dressed in matching purple outfits, the trio walked down the aisle together, with each bride linking an arm through the groom’s as he stood between them. They also posed for photos as guests took turns approaching the stage to greet them.
The post has since garnered over 1 million views, and 35,000 likes.
The celebration sparked mixed reactions online. Some offered their well wishes, while others were left puzzled by the choice to wed two brides in a single ceremony.
When a commenter asked whether the two brides were sisters, the OP, presumably a guest, clarified that the brides were not related.
The ceremony also prompted a whole bunch of questions. Some wondered how the man was “going to handle two wives at home,” while another asked: “Are they going to sleep in the same bed at night?”
A netizen added: “I don’t understand. Does this mean he was dating two women before marriage?”
“Actually, polygamy isn’t a problem at all — as long as it doesn’t involve my husband,” another quipped.
One netizen offered further explanation, though it hasn’t been verified if what they’re saying is true: “The one in the white hijab is the first wife, the one in the black hijab is his second wife. They both sat together on the dais. You can tell the one in the black hijab apart because she’s wearing the same silver accessories as the man.”
Under Shariah (Islamic) law in Malaysia, polygyny (where a man may have up to four wives) is legal. However, a Muslim man must obtain approval from the state Syariah Court before marrying additional wives, with the court assessing factors such as his ability to treat all wives fairly and provide for them financially.
