Jack Neo’s Money No Enough 3 aired in Singapore earlier this year to massive success, raking in over S$4.8mil at the box office. The movie is set to premiere in Taiwan on May 1, and the cast made a recent visit there to promote the show and thank audiences for the love they’ve shown the franchise.
Other than the film’s leading men, Jack Neo, Mark Lee, and Henry Thia, nine other cast members, including Regina Lim, Terence Cao, and Tang Miaoling, were also there.
The film touches on the relationships between parents and their kids. Henry Thia’s on-screen son, played by young actor Braven Yeo, initially expresses his wish to stay unmarried. However, his girlfriend gets pregnant, and the family struggles to cough up cash for a rushed wedding.
Apparently the topic of a middle-class family lacking finances to pay for a wedding has struck a chord with audiences and the cast.
According to Henry, 72, he didn’t have this issue when he got married over 40 years ago.
“I had worked at a factory for 10 years, and after they shuttered the business, I was given a sum of money which I used to marry my wife. I remember it was around S$3K, and the cost of one table at a wedding banquet used to be less than S$100,” he recalled.
Mark, however, could relate to the financial struggles depicted in the film. He described himself as someone who had “no fame or fortune” in 1999, the year he married his now-wife Catherine Ng.
He didn’t have enough money to pay the deposit for his wedding banquet, and had to loan some from his mentor Jack and his wife.
Thankfully, Mark was able to pay everything off with the red packets from family and friends.
