PUTRAJAYA: The report that there was a vote taken by the Conference of Rulers recently is fake news, says government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil.
In his post-cabinet briefing to the media, the Communications Minister said that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had identified the persons responsible for the social media posting.
“A fake report that at the recent Conference of Rulers (on Feb 5), it was alleged that a vote was taken 7-2, and this report is not true. There was never such a vote.
“As seen by the postings on the official Facebook of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, at the recent meeting of the Conference of Rulers, we can see that the King himself was absent and that there were no nine Malay Rulers there.
“Sultan Ibrahim has been away (for medical treatment overseas) since last Friday. MCMC has identified the persons responsible for the postings which touch on 3R (race, religion and royalty). Action will be taken against those disseminating the fake news,” said Fahmi.
Recently, there have been postings alleging that a vote was taken by the Malay Rulers with regards to the addendum issue on former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house arrest.
