Lady Gaga’s Asia-exclusive Mayhem shows kick off in Singapore this Sunday. But it seems that it’s not seeing the same hype and demand as Taylor Swift’s six Southeast Asia-exclusive shows in Singapore during her Eras Tour last year.
The 39-year-old Mother Monster is performing here on four nights: May 18-19, 21 and 24. A quick check shows that only the May 24 show is sold out; and single seat and restricted view tickets for the three other shows are still available.
This is a stark contrast to the initial rush when Gaga tickets first went on sale, with some overseas fans even rushing to book flights and hotel stays here even before tickets went on sale.
At one point, scalpers listed VIP packages for as much as S$30K on resale platforms such as Carousell and Viagogo.
However, a recent check shows that ticket resale prices on these sites have now dropped significantly, returning closer to their original retail price.
One was even seen offloading a S$328 ticket for as low as S$280.
In contrast, on official ticketing platforms Ticketmaster, Klook and Krisflyer, prices range between S$148 to S$368, while VIP packages are priced from S$648 to S1,348.
Authorities have issued a statement reminding everyone to only buy concert tickets from the three official platforms.
In comparison, all six shows for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in Singapore last year sold out rapidly, and a surprise release of extra tickets closer to the concert dates saw them snapped up within hours.
Scalpers reportedly made huge profits from Eras tour tix, and hotel prices across the city skyrocketed (even Hotel 81 charging more than S$400 a night).
In contrast, room prices during Lady Gaga’s concert week remain relatively normal.
Budget options near the National Stadium are still available at S$100 to S$150 per night, and mid-range options like Hotel Boss are listed at around S$130 per night.
While five-star hotels such as the Marina Bay Sands, Swissotel The Stamford, and The Westin Singapore have increased rates by 10 to 20 per cent, it’s still modest compared to prices during the Eras Tour frenzy.
In an interview with Sinchew, tourism consultant Cai Yongxing said that the lukewarm response may be due to Lady Gaga’s relatively niche appeal among younger international fans compared to Taylor Swift.
Suggesting that the ‘Abracadabra’ singer’s fans skew older and may be more conservative with their spending, he also pointed out that social media campaigns for Lady Gaga’s tour lacked the same impact as Taylor’s.
Yongxing even speculated that the US-China trade war could also be affecting fans’ willingness to travel for overseas concerts.
Lady Gaga was last here 13 years ago in 2012 for her Born this Way Ball Tour. Her 2025 shows in Singapore mark the only Asian stop on her Mayhem tour before she heads to Las Vegas in July.
Though the singer initially stated that she had no plans to tour beyond Singapore, she later shared that overwhelming support for her latest music inspired her to extend the tour globally.
