Woman, 74, taken to hospital after her car skids in Upper Thomson

SINGAPORE – A 74-year-old driver was injured after her car skidded along Upper Thomson Road on June 12.

The police said it was alerted to the accident at 2.50pm that day. The incident is believed to have occurred along Upper Thomson Road towards Lornie Road, near the Housing Board estate in Shunfu Road.

“A 74-year-old female car driver was (taken) conscious to the hospital,” the police said. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said she was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

A report in Lianhe Zaobao on June 13 said a witness saw the car mounting the pavement. Pictures taken at the accident site show the car’s airbags deployed and bollards knocked down.

Residents told the Chinese daily they heard a loud bang and saw the police and ambulances arriving shortly after.

This is the second reported accident involving elderly persons this week. On June 9, an 89-year-old driver and his 90-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital by SCDF after an accident involving four cars in a carpark at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.

Police investigations into the June 12 accident are ongoing.
