During an interview with YES 933 jock Hazelle Teo earlier this year, 8days.sg found out about the 29-year-old’s current living situation: a a small but cosy rented room, which she likens to “a hotel”.
Soon, she’ll have a massive upgrade.
Hazelle recently took to Instagram to announce that she has bought her first home, and 8days.sg had to catch up with her to find out more about the milestone.
Hazelle, who got her start in radio after joining DJ search The Sound Makers in 2016, tells us she’s been saving up for her first home ever since she started working.
“Maybe it was always a Singaporean thing, to spend our money on assets that appreciate [in value]. To be honest, I like to live life and I have to admit that I didn’t exactly scrimp and save. I’m not the kind to ‘eat one meal a day’, but I did watch my spendings and I focused on making my income grow,” she says.
Her current room is “only about 200 plus square feet”, and she’s been planning the upgrade for the last two to three years. She needs a bigger space to accommodate all her belongings.
Her new place is a two-bedroom, two-bath 710 sq ft resale condo unit.
So what was the price tag?
“It was S$1.25mil. I asked for 1.15mil, and got it at 1.18mil. Just channelling my inner Jay-Z here and remembering when he said, “I believe you can speak things into existence.” Honestly I was prepared to pay it in full, but thank God I was thick-skinned enough,” laughed Hazelle.
Her new place is situated in the west of Singapore ‘cos for Hazelle, “west side, best side”.
“I grew up in the west and I wanted somewhere my parents are familiar with too. Mediacorp was also a contributing factor. I go to the office so often that I want somewhere near so I can pop home for a nap whenever!” she explains.
Hazelle went through the whole viewing and purchasing process by herself.
“My family didn’t know about it until I texted in the family chat, complete with photos and videos, telling them I just bought the house. I wanted to make this decision without influence from anybody,” she explains.
