SINGAPORE – A man who worked as a teacher aide has been charged over sexual offences committed against a male pupil from when the child was 11 years old.
The 25-year-old was on Aug 27 charged with two counts of procuring an obscene or indecent act by a child, an offence under the Children and Young Persons Act (CYPA). He was also charged with one count of molestation.
Details about the man and the school cannot be disclosed owing to a gag order to protect the boy’s identity.
The first incident allegedly happened on March 7, 2025.
The teacher aide, whose role typically includes preparing teaching materials and resources, was in an activity room at the school when he allegedly directed the victim to perform an indecent act on him.
He is said to have done it a second time at the school at around 3.30pm on Feb 13, 2026. The man allegedly also touched the child’s genitals over his clothing that day.
His case will be mentioned again in court on Sept 24.
For each charge under the CYPA, a first-time offender can be jailed for up to seven years, fined up to $10,000, or both.
A repeat offender can be jailed for up to 10 years, fined up to $20,000, or both.
If convicted of molestation, the man can be jailed for up to five years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of such punishments.
