SINGAPORE – The FairPrice Group (FPG) will continue to give out $8 return vouchers for every $80 worth of Community Development Council (CDC) supermarket vouchers used in a single transaction at its outlets until Jan 24.
The promotion has been extended by a week so more customers can offset their daily expenses, FPG said in a press release on Jan 17.
FPG group chief executive Vipul Chawla said it has seen “overwhelming demand” for the return voucher promotion in the last two weeks.
The return vouchers can be used the day after they are issued, till Feb 29. There is no minimum spend requirement and multiple vouchers are permitted for use in a single transaction.
Launched on Jan 3, the 2024 CDC Vouchers Scheme provides each Singaporean household with $500 in vouchers, half of which can be spent at supermarkets. This initiative will benefit 1.27 million Singaporean households and cost $635 million.
At least three other participating supermarket chains had offered return vouchers or other deals for those who used a minimum amount of CDC vouchers for each transaction.
U Stars offered $7 return vouchers for those who spent $60 of their CDC vouchers between Jan 3 and 17, and $15 return vouchers for those who spent $120 in vouchers. These return vouchers can be used until Jan 31.
Similarly, DFI Retail Group gave $5 cash vouchers to customers who spent $100 worth of CDC vouchers at Cold Storage, CS Fresh and Jason’s Deli from Jan 3 to 7.
At Giant, customers who spent $100 worth of CDC vouchers from Jan 3 to 7 were eligible to redeem a 2.5kg bag of rice.
In November, FPG announced that it will absorb the 1 percentage point goods and services tax (GST) increase for 500 essential items for the first half of 2024.
These products include fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, paper products, detergent and household cleaners.
That same month, FPG also announced the extension of discount schemes till end-2024 for members of the Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation and Community Health Assist Scheme Blue cardholders.
